Website & Online Banking Security

Secure Transactions
Ensuring the privacy and security of your account and personal information is our utmost priority at SELCO Community Credit Union. We never store member information on our Web Server that is accessed by the public. All account information is housed on computers that are behind our firewall (protected area). Our Web Server only passes information between your Internet browser and our computers located behind the firewall, and vice-versa. Our Web Server is also housed behind our secure firewall. All Online Banking sessions with SELCO are authenticated and encrypted. The authentication of an Online Banking session is handled through your Account Number and PIN combination, which is required at login from the SELCO.org homepage (or any other page on our website).

You can verify the site's security certificate by clicking the gold Verisign logo to your right.

The security encryption is accomplished by establishing a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) connection between your browser and our Web Server. You can only access Online Banking with an SSL compliant browser with at least 128 encryption. To determine what level of encryption your browser uses, click here.

Online Banking Login
When you open the SELCO.org homepage or any other page to access your account, you may not see the gold Internet browser lock on the lower right area of your browser, which is traditionally an indication that the page is secure, however, this does not mean that your login will not be secure. When you log into Online Banking, the encryption of your account number and password happens on the destination page just before you enter your account, not on the origination page (SELCO homepage). That is why you do not see the gold browser lock. We have removed a redundant layer of security from the homepage (and all other pages) to speed up the time it takes to login into your account. The gold browser lock that you have learned to trust as the indication of a page's security is symbolic more than anything. If you do not see it, it does not mean the page is insecure. If you are accustomed to seeing this lock and feel uncomfortable logging into your account without seeing it first, just type an "s" after the "http" in the "http://selco.org" address bar of your browser and you will see the gold lock.

PIN Numbers
The PIN is the same that is used when conducting your phone banking transactions. You do have an ability to request a new PIN to access both Online Banking and Phone Banking when you sign up for the Online Banking service. In addition, you have the ability to change your PIN in the Maintenance section within Online Banking. We encourage you to change your PIN often.

Online Banking Guarantee
We built a security system around Online Banking that safeguards your money and keeps your account information private at all times. We are confident of the security of online banking. But, like with anything new, you may still have concerns about the security of this new way to bank.

That is why we make this promise to you:

If an unauthorized transaction was conducted on your account because of a breech on the SELCO Community Credit Union Data Network, or because of a breech that occurred while you were connected to Online Banking, your liability on those unauthorized transactions will be ZERO.

What should I do if I discover an unauthorized transaction on my account?
