Our Community Is Growing

Connected by purpose: Why Numerica?

This decision is guided by the question at the heart of everything we do: How can we improve our members’ social and economic position today and well into the future?

With that question in mind, we regularly evaluate opportunities to grow thoughtfully to:

  • Enhance the products and services our members need.
  • Help additional members reach their financial goals.
  • Deepen our investment in the communities we call home.
  • Partner with credit unions that share our purpose and values.

In Numerica, we see a strong reflection of our own culture, philosophy, and commitment to personal service. Simply put, we're coming together because we believe combining our strengths creates greater opportunities for our members, team members, and communities.

Driven by opportunity: What this means for members

Bringing together two high-performing, mission-aligned organizations creates more opportunities for you and our communities through:

  • Additional products and services: Over time, you can expect to access new products, loans, digital and account security capabilities, and financial wellness resources.
  • Expanded branch and ATM network: Because SELCO and Numerica’s service areas don’t overlap, there are no plans to consolidate branches, meaning you’ll also have access to more free ATMs and a 38-branch network spanning Oregon, Washington, and Northern Idaho.
  • Greater community impact: The merger will also expand resources for community giving and financial education initiatives, including additional sponsorships, volunteerism, and community partnerships.
  • Long-term strength: A stronger financial foundation will support additional investments in our people and offer a more compelling alternative to large banks and fintechs.

Most importantly, greater scale will give us more opportunities to evolve with your needs and those of our communities.

Partnership FAQ

This merger of equals brings together two financially strong, member-owned credit unions that share a commitment to exceptional service, financial well-being, community impact, and long-term stability.

Together, SELCO and Numerica will be better positioned to expand access to products and services, enhance digital and security capabilities, and strengthen our investment in our team members and communities.

There are no immediate changes to accounts, services, branches, or the day-to-day member experience.

No. This is a merger of equals between two high-performing, mission-aligned credit unions of complementary scale and service capabilities. Together, we will be able to offer more products, services, support, and convenience while remaining member-owned and member-focused. And because both SELCO and Numerica are entering the partnership from positions of financial strength, the combined organization can focus on a smooth transition, with continuous account access and consistent member experience.

There are no planned branch closures, relocations, or staffing reductions because of the merger. Members can continue using their usual branches and working with the same local teams they know and trust.

Our priority is to maintain the high level of service members expect. Because both credit unions are entering the partnership from positions of financial strength, the combined organization can focus on a smooth transition, with continuous account access and consistent member experience.

Over time, the partnership will expand the resources available to serve members and communities, as well as create additional opportunities for team-member growth and development.

There will be no interruptions or immediate changes. Your account and routing numbers, cards, and checks will remain the same, and your deposits will continue to be federally insured by the NCUA for up to $250,000. You can continue to access your accounts just as you do today, and our teams will remain available to serve you online, over the phone, and in-person at your local branch.

Over time, you will benefit from additional products and services, including loans, digital and account security capabilities, and financial wellness resources. Because SELCO and Numerica’s service areas don’t overlap, there are no plans to consolidate branches, meaning you’ll also have access to more free ATMs and a 38-branch network spanning Oregon, Washington, and northern Idaho.

If there are updates to share in the future, they will be communicated clearly and well in advance.

Yes. The combined credit union will operate under the Oregon charter, with the headquarters remaining in Springfield, Oregon.

For the immediate future, you will continue to access your accounts just as you do today, and our teams will remain available to serve you at your local branch.

Over time, you will have access to a larger network of branches and no-fee ATMs, as well as additional products and services, including loans, digital and account security capabilities, and financial wellness resources.

Yes, most recently with Portland-based Forest Park Federal Credit Union in 2012 and Burns-based Greater Oregon Federal Credit Union in 2013.

In both the short and long term, your deposits will continue to be insured through NCUA’s National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund up to $250,000 per person.

No American has ever lost a single penny on their insured accounts at any federally insured credit union in the US.

Because SELCO and Numerica’s service areas don’t overlap, there are no plans to consolidate branches, meaning you’ll also have access to more free ATMs and a 38-branch network spanning Oregon, Washington, and northern Idaho.

No. Because the combined credit union will operate under SELCO’s Oregon charter, only Numerica’s members are required to vote.

Just the opposite. Both SELCO and Numerica are financially strong, well-capitalized, and are rated among the strongest credit unions in the Pacific Northwest by regulatory examiners. This is truly a merger of equals that see more opportunities for their members, team members, and communities by coming together.

As SELCO continues to modernize and grow to meet members’ needs and preferences, our name will once again change. Numerica is being integrated into SELCO’s Oregon charter, and SELCO will be adopting Numerica’s name.

This update won’t happen immediately, and we will communicate timelines for all changes clearly and well in advance.

SELCO’s name has evolved several times since the credit union opened in 1936. It originally stood for School Employees of Lane County. After expanding its charter to serve Lane County’s service employees, the credit union became Service Employees of Lane County. When SELCO later adopted a community charter, SELCO was no longer an acronym.

SELCO has merged with other credit unions over the years, most recently with Portland-based Forest Park Federal Credit Union in 2012 and Burns-based Greater Oregon Federal Credit Union in 2013. This merger will be SELCO’s largest, more than doubling both membership and the team.

Upon completion of the merger, Carla Cicero, Numerica’s current President and CEO, will lead the combined organization. Bob Newcomb, current SELCO President and CEO, plans to retire after the completion of the legal merger.
